What is the FIFA World Cup

The FIFA World Cup is the biggest sporting event in the world. It is a tournament that takes place every four years and it gathers the best football players from all over the globe to play for their home country. It is a global event that brings billions of people from all around the world to cheer for their favorite teams and players.

Qatar will host the sporting event this year. This will take place from November 21 to December 18, 2022, with 64 matches going to take place across 8 venues. Qatar was selected to host the event in December 2010 and will spend an estimated $200 billion on infrastructure before the event. It is estimated to be the most expensive event ever.

6 FIFA Continental Confederations

  1. Asian Football Confederation (AFC)
  2. Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF)
  3. Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (UEFA)
  4. Confederation of African Football (CAF)
  5. The South American Football Confederation CONMEBOL
  6. Oceania Football Confederation (OFC)

Each has its qualification competitions to qualify for the World Cup. Twenty-four of the thirty-two countries that qualified for the 2022 World Cup previously competed in the 2018 World Cup.

The qualified countries will be grouped from A to H. Each group will play a round-robin game to determine which two teams will advance to the Round of 16 stages. It will be a knockout game from the Round of 16 to the Finals, with losers going home and winners trying to advance to the finals and take the Cup.

This year's tournament will also feature new rules, allowing teams to make up to five substitutions in normal time rather than three, and one substitution in extra time. Furthermore, each team will be allowed one concussion substitute during a match; this will be the first World Cup with concussion substitutions.

The favorites to win the cup

The favorites to win it all are Argentina, Brazil, and France.

Argentina has Messi, one of the greatest of all time to ever play the game, this will be his fifth time in the World Cup, this is the only title he has not won, and it is possibly his last chance to win a World cup, his closest to winning it was in 2014 World Cup Brazil where Argentina lost to the finals against Germany in the extra time. Brazil and France on the other hand are simply just stacked with superstars.
